Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Main Accountabilities
- Teach a class of up to 25 students using the school’s approved curriculum.
- Teach Chinese as a Foreign Language to lower secondary years students according to the Cambridge Lower Secondary Modern Foreign Language curricular framework.
- Provide the necessary lesson plans, semester plans, and other essential documentation as required.
- Develop engaging and innovative lessons that allow our students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Design and implement with enthusiasm engaging lessons that incorporate technology, student collaboration, and hands-on learning experiences into the classroom.
- Increase student attainment that is aligned with international standards
- Reduce gaps in student knowledge, skills, and understanding as measured by international standards.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of the Cambridge International Education curriculum standards for the assigned subject area.
- Collaborate with colleagues and promote understanding and communication in a diverse multicultural learning environment.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Design and deliver engaging and effective lessons that nurture students’ desire to learn.
- Achieve the learning goals of the Cambridge International Curriculum.
- Design and implement a comprehensive and appropriately sequenced learning program for students, reflecting current pedagogical practices.
- Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for students based on international, national, local, and school standards, and founded upon a professional understanding of children’s developmental behaviors.
- Plan and implement cross-curricular learning and teaching whenever it is feasible and appropriate.
- Deliver high-quality, engaging learning activities using discussion, collaboration direct instruction, demonstrations, independent practice, and other proven methods.
- Create a positive environment of active and genuine learning.
- Differentiate instruction and assessment to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of disability, instructional level, English proficiency, or level of interest in the subject to meet the needs of all students.
- Evaluate student performance on standards-based assessment tasks using a variety of assessment tools such as observation, performance, or other effective assessment practices.
- Monitor, record, and report student attendance and punctuality, and communicate the information to the designated school departments per school policy.
- Select an appropriate repertoire and teaching materials and resources to develop a creative approach to teaching and learning.
- Plan and execute activities for the school and community.
- Assist students with the effective presentation of their work when feasible and appropriate.
- Monitor each student’s progress and keep the student and parents informed by using the school’s approved platforms and other designated communication methods.
- Assist students in internal or external competitions or activities.
- Facilitate student engagement in the school’s extra-curricular activities when needed.
- Work collaboratively with all staff to ensure that suitable events and activities are prepared within a minimum disruption of the normal schedule.
- Participate in subject or area association meetings as appropriate and maintain relationships with professional associations.
- Actively develop professional skills and knowledge by accessing and implementing up-to-date teaching methods and curriculum tools.
- Abide by the school calendar of events, including but not limited to, class activities, schoolwide events, etc.
- Be a positive role model to students, parents, colleagues, and the broader community of SISC.
- Conform with and uphold all policies and procedures of SISC and take all reasonable care to ensure that any actions or omissions do not impact the health and safety of others in the school.
- Apply the basic knowledge expected of a professional position concerning the value of diversity, principles of anti-discrimination, and equal opportunity legislation.
- Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and exercising best practices related to student well-being and child safety by implementing SISC policies and practices.
- Maintain professional standards of communication with staff, parents, and students using approved and appropriate channels.
- Comply with school policies such as the professional dress code, the deadline to submit grades, student behavior management, and other usual and customary expectations.
- Perform other usual and customary tasks assigned by the line manager or principal.
Qualifications and Personal characteristics and skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or equivalent, or degree in the subject area that is being taught, with additional professional teacher qualifications
- Teaching certification/license issued by a governmental educational agency
- Two years of international school experience, preferably in the subject area.
