Summary
The Special Educational Needs (SEN) Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in promoting and ensuring inclusive education and support for students with SEN. The SEN Program Coordinator oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive SEN services across all educational levels, from Early Childhood to Secondary. The SEN Program Coordinator ensures that the school’s DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion) Policy is effectively applied, fostering an environment where every student’s unique needs are recognized and supported. Through collaboration with teachers, parents, and external specialists, the SEN Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in creating a supportive and adaptive learning experience for SEN students.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments to determine students’ eligibility for SEN services and identify specific educational interventions required.
  • Prepare detailed Evaluation Reports including background information, reasons for referral, observations, assessment results, and recommendations.
  • Develop Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for students requiring Tier 1 and Tier 2 support.
  • Outline present levels of performance, assessment outcomes, long-term and short-term learning objectives, and necessary accommodations and support strategies.
  • Collaborate with external service providers (e.g., Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, etc.) to coordinate therapy sessions and integrate recommendations into students’ educational plans.
  • Facilitate communication between therapy providers and homeroom teachers to ensure consistent support across environments.
  • Implement pull-out interventions for targeted one-on-one and group sessions, focusing on academic and social skills development.
  • Utilize push-in interventions to support students within mainstream classrooms, ensuring continuity of learning and application of skills.
  • Arrange test-taking accommodations as needed, in consultation with department principals and coordinators, to provide equitable testing conditions for SEN students.
  • Design and prepare specialized instructional materials tailored to meet the unique educational needs of SEN students, enhancing access to the curriculum.
  • Regularly evaluate student progress against IEP goals and overall development through semester-based progress reports.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to teachers, parents, and administrators regarding student achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs) to discuss student progress and address parental concerns related to LS services.
  • Offer individual consultations and support sessions for parents seeking guidance on supporting their child’s educational journey.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for teachers and support staff to enhance their understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive practices.
  • Participate in the development and review of school-wide policies related to SEN and inclusion, ensuring they are up-to-date with the latest educational standards and practices.
  • Manage and analyze data related to SEN students’ progress and outcomes, generating reports for school leadership and external agencies as required.
  • Serve as an advocate for SEN students within the school community, ensuring that their rights and needs are represented in all aspects of school life.
  • Build partnerships with local and international organizations that provide additional resources and support for SEN students and their families.
  • Oversee the budget for SEN services, ensuring that resources, including specialized equipment and technology, are effectively allocated to meet the needs of students and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and regulations.
  • Maintain a high level of flexibility to be able to rapidly respond to fast-changing and complex situations.
  • Perform other appropriate tasks assigned by the line manager.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master’s degree preferred) in Special Education, Psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Relevant experience in special education settings, including assessment, intervention planning, and case management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in analyzing student data and generating reports to inform instructional practices and program development.
  • Knowledge of inclusive education practices and familiarity with local and international special education regulations and standards.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude toward working with students with diverse needs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive education and the well-being of students.
